snap bids!

Sooooo what's the deal with snap bids? How many houses, how many spots available, and when are they available? I'm considered going gamma phi but I'd hate to go through rush, get bidded and be so excited, and THEN get a call from another chapter with an offer.

Snap bids are only given out before Bid Day activities. No one, for the most part, even knows you are a snap. You show up on Bid Day with everybody else. Obviously, the chances for snap bids are now over.

False that they're only given before/during bid day, I have a friend in another chapter that got a snap bid 2 weeks later

that's COB, not really the same as a snap bid since snap bids are given on bid day.

Snap bids are only available on bid day and are given to "snap" a house to quota by extending bids to women who were not on the chapter's bid list.

At this point, you're looking at COB, "continuous open bidding." There are two numbers at play here that determine if a chapter does COB: quota and total. If quota was 82, and a chapter hit quota but had five girls drop on bid day, they may be able to fill those spots. Usually those slots are filled quickly and by friends of girls in the chapter, by inviting them over for dinner, letting them meet enough sisters, and so forth. Chapters may also COB in the spring if they are below Panhellenic's established "chapter total" number, usually due to sisters graduating in spring, transferring, or having to resign membership.

If you are looking for a bid now or in spring, it would be through COB.
