bottom tier
by: CuriousI know to stay off of this site and not talk but we all know it's bound to happen. I have one house that is considered "bottom tier". How do they get treated in comparison to a "top tier"? While I personally don't care too much for rank, it's difficult when you are a PNM and people are telling you that you're only option is the "reject" sorority. If people are telling me this when I'm just going through rush, how am I going to get treated if I do get a bid?

Exactly the same.
Pick the chapter that feels like home to you and that you can see lasting friendships coming from. Having letters XYZ won't keep you out of anything. Your chapter will still hold date functions, away trips, socials, honecoming, sisterhood events, philanthropies etc and you can go to whatever you want of those and others.
Just trust yourself and run HOME on bid day.

With love from the sisters that gave you a bid when all other houses couldn't see you as the shining star you are. What you need to ask yourself is do YOU want to be Greek? This process has been physically and emotionally draining. Can you see yourself doing it again next year? Do you think the results will be different for you given additional time to mature? To answer your question, I have wonderful friends in all "tiers" and I treat them all the same.

Before I rushed, a few of my high school friends who hadn't rushed and weren't going to (and were pretty skeptical of the Greek system) were the very same people going "oh you can't join House XYZ they are the bottom" as if they knew anything. It's like a way of trying to prove they "get" how the hierarchy works while also hating on it. Almost no actual sorority women will talk like that.

As a sister of a bottom tier sorority, there is some what of a difference in the social aspect of your sorority life. You will never be on social rotation with the best fraternities and you may go through times where you get no attention from any fraternity. My roommate was top tier and she always had stories of fraternities trying to woo them and we didn't. So if social calendars and fraternities are a big deal then this could be a problem. There also is a social stigma that comes wiTh bottom tier that may make you feel awkward or sad that you are in the bottom sorority. Just trying to keep it honest!
