sorority

by: Sad

I rushed my freshmen year and didn't end up in a sorority and I'm now going into my senior year and with rush going on (and pretty much all the tme) I can't help but regret not rushing again. any advice on not being in a sorority and not thinking about it all the time :/

But in all seriousness there is no point in regretting things. I had a LD boyfriend and a super hard major so I was MIA most of the time from my sorority, which was a mistake. But it's silly to dwell on the past, just focus on making friends and being happy in the future! That's what greek life is about anyways! (And you could always add a few rounds of bar golf in there) haha.

It might be a long shot but why not take a look at ΓΦΒ? Be super enthusiastic and state your case. You could really give a lot of guidance and help to a chapter! Let us know how it goes!

Yes, and you'll never know if you don't try! You could end up having your best year at U.F. and really making great new friends!

I cannot recommend GPhiB enough!!! They will need seniors. It would be kinda weird to join an established sorority as a senior, because it could not provide a ton of benefits or opportunitites to you in one year, but colonizing would really teach you some skills and leave a lasting legacy here at UF.

It should not be a long shot due to her class status. Colonies ALWAYS look for a mix of members, INCLUDING SENIORS. They want to recruit a functioning chapter, which includes upperclassmen.

Definitely DEFINITELY look into ΓΦΒ (Gamma Phi Beta) now that formal recruitment is done and they should start recruiting. Check out: facebook.com/ufgammaphibeta (I'm sure they'll update the FB page with dates and times for their events)

They WILL be looking for seniors and you'll never know if you don't try. I hope your grades are good and you have a nice resume of activities and are comfortable having an interview with one of their national representatives because that's what the process of colonization is like.

GOOD LUCK and update us!!! Hoping to call you a Panhellenic sister soon ;)

A colony is not a consolation prize for a senior who failed at recruitment as a freshman. Have some respect for the standards of our new sorority!

I'm pretty sure ΓΦΒ's national representatives can more than adequately choose who who is fit to represent their letters. Their membership selection is not up to you. And encouraging girls to go for ΓΦΒ will only increase their pool of PNMs and make their colony better.

Furthermore, you don't know who this girl is, why she didn't find a home during rush, how she feels now, or how she has matured over the years she has spent at UF. You know nothing about this girl from her short post. I sincerely hope you're not a member of my sorority (a top house here) because I'd be ashamed if I heard one of my sisters speak this way. You're being very judgmental and rude for no good reason.

Like you, I'm assuming she dropped because she was influenced by tent talk. However, if she realized that she's missing out on the most important aspects of sorority membership (like sisterhood) and regrets it now, why shouldn't she be given a second chance? I'm sure she would contribute a lot to ΓΦΒ if she decides to go that route.

First of all no one is calling it a consultation prize yet alone guaranteeing this girl she will get a spot in gamma phi. Who are you to criticize way to show some panhel love. Don't listen to this person ... I'm with everyone else give gamma phi beta your best effort I don't want to sound negative but don't go in being sure that you'll absolutely get a bid. I'm not saying you won't either best of luck to you. ❤️

Yes exactly. Bids are NEVER guaranteed but if "Sad" doesn't try then she will never know if it was for her. If she's sad about not going Greek, she's lucky that there is something she can try to do about it with ΓΦΒ coming to campus this year.

How awful to tell this girl she's a reject among other things. My guess is that she spent her years here working hard on her major/studies and is a very accomplished person. From her tone it sounds like this might be the case and now her course load might be easing up and she will have time to give a sorority. In other words, just the person for whom G.PhiB. is looking! Ignore the naysayers, go rush ΓΦΒ and all the best to you!

P.S.: Very often it is a "non-traditional" sister who ends up being worth her weight in gold. Not just during her college years but in alumnae life as well!
