Most of the new chapters houses take approximately 2 years to build. That being said, there are a lot of factors that have to happen before construction begins. Land must be purchases, university hoops must be jumped through and funding in place. I would say best case scenario would be 4-6 years. Each new organization that enters the Panhellenic community knows the value of having a house in their recruitment efforts. So I would expect Gamma Phi have been planning for a while but I think the 4-6 year time frame is probably very realistic.

My daughter is going through rush now. I graduated from UF in the late 1980s. I went through rush when Pi Beta Phi colonized - in 1984. I did not want to join because I was hung up on there being no house and it being new. My roommate joined Pi Beta Phi - and they did not have a house but they had a real sisterhood and she created something and molded something that others have today. She remained active and now goes back for games and has a house and a sisterhood to continue her contribution. Go for it! Be the first! Embrace it and make it your own. Your experience will be different that others but it will be a HUGE resume builder and great experience and isn't that whats its all about anyway? You know that big house down the street with DDD letters? Or KD letters? Its nice but its expensive too!
