Best chance for a bid is formal recruitment. COB is just some chapters offering bids if they have any spots depending on what Total is. COB is not a secondary rush. There's usually an info zoom in January.

Cob and snap bids were common last fall due to the record numbers of girls rushing.

That's not how that works at all. The number of pnm's don't affect snap or cob.

Not an old lady or adpi and yes they did snap and cob, but it was not because of the larger amount of pnm's, it was because the RFM numbers were completely fooked up. Most chapters were given incorrect release numbers, way way too high. Chapters that have to release the most pnm's every round anyway were even more affected. ADPi was given too many to release for pref so they came up short in bid matching. If the RFM numbers had been correct and adjusted properly at each round for each chapter like the way it is supposed to go, the right number of pnm's would have been carried at round 3 and pref across the board, no matter how many pnm's there were. If they get it right this year then everybody will get the correct numbers and snaps will be proportionately back to average.

The truth is chapters that do really well one year can get punished the next because pan doesn’t average out the number of drops that a chapter has to have. RFM does have its flaws

What do you mean average out the drops? RFM is based on each chapter's trend over a few years, not just the last year. So wdym?

So can someone please explain to me how snap bids and cob work

Snap bids can be offered before Bid Day by any sorority that fails to match to Quota. Pnm's are eligible if they participated in at least the first round of recruitment and did not get a bid because they either dropped out of the process, were dropped by all houses, or did not get a bid through bid matching because they SIP'd. These pnm's get a call and have a very short period of time to accept the snap or not. Snap bidding ends before bids are opened.

Any chapter that still did not reach Quota by the time bids were opened, or any chapter that is below the Chapter Total Membership number that panhellenic sets, can offer bids through Continuous Open Bidding. Anyone is eligible to get a COB but girls that sororities already know have the best chance.

A Snap or COB is NOTHING to count on, are limited in which sororities offer them and when, and should NOT be a strategy for anyone wanting a sorority bid.

Every house offers COB from time to time. People graduate in December and spots open up. A chapter doesn't have to announce they are doing it or put themselves on a list or hold a 'rush', they can just offer bids on the DL when they want to and you would never know about it unless you were in the chapter. This is especially true when a chapter only has a handful of open spots and knows girls they want to offer them to.
