SERIOUS QUESTION - Why do Srat tiers/ranks matter?

This site seems so stuck on bashing each other and making new, slightly different rank lists every five minutes, but why does Greek Rank even exist?

I've seen users refer to girls from other sisterhoods as "dogs" and other insults. I've seen a comment that said "I'd never hang with someone lower than Deeph." Will what tier sorority you were in even matter after you graduate? Maybe it does, I don't know, feel free to explain below...

I'm just looking for clear, honest answers as to why there's this division. They don't have to be perfect, diplomatic answers, but I do genuinely want to know why Greek Life @ UF is portrayed this way on this website?
