how does spring recruitment work

I went through spring rush and it was a very confusing process! I never did fall rush but from what I hear, fall is a lot more formal and you are aware of everything that’s happening (for example, which houses dropped you). there’s usually a meeting at the start of spring semester where they announce all of the chapters participating in spring recruitment. usually it’s only like 8 chapters so if you are brand new to uf and don’t know much about panhellenic, i’d recommend fall rush so you can visit each house. after the meeting you basically have to stalk the participating sororities’ instagrams to find out when and where their events are. some events are more formal than others. most will be maybe a dinner, desert party, etc. for some sororities, you have to reach out to recruitment chairs to be invited to an event. once you decide which houses you want to rush, you simply show up to the event, sign in, and go along with whatever they have you do. this part is similar to fall rush in that you’re basically girl flirting. after that you go home and they decide whether or not they want you back. this is where it gets confusing, I rushed multiple houses and didn’t hear back from any of them except one, which I received a bid for. I was honestly just a sitting duck waiting to be told the results but I never even got that. some houses will invite girls back for a secret event, which will likely lead to receiving a bid. some houses will automatically hand out bids after their event. it’s all pretty secretive for some reason. my best advice is, only do spring rush if you know a lot of girls in a specific house that you want to join, or if you already have one in mind that you’ve been eyeing. if you are unsure, do fall rush!

if you really want top or middle tier, your best chances are in the fall. I know some people that dropped fall because they only had lower tier houses left and there were a few mid tiers and one or two top tiers rushing spring with these very small classes already picked out prior to rush. Spring is very different and you generally need to know girls in the house to get a bid and it can be informal and secretive.
