Let's get real. Top-tier sororities (and fraternities) lose fewer people over a year, and, mostly, they lose them to graduation. The members of the top-tier get their ego massaged every day - their membership is a top-tier sorority reminds them that they among the coolest girls on campus (even if they aren't). On the other hand, each girl in sororities further down in the rankings weighs her involvement in her sorority on things like friendship and resume material against the monthly cost of membership. It's only natural, therefore, that without additional benefit of ego-enhancement, which only goes with top-tier sororitys, more girls in mid-tier sororitys determine that the cost/benefit ratio of remaining as a member doesn't work. We are all willing to pay a lot for prestige.
