There's a long thread about it at GreekChat. Their national wouldn't let them run their own recruitment because they had low numbers, and they forced them to take PNMs they didn't want. Their house was small and plain and their national didn't have the money to invest in something nicer, so that held them back too.
Eventually the chapter got sick of national's interference and voted to close. National decided to recolonize immediately and barred the old chapter from the house and threatened them with expulsion if they wore letters around campus. The Alligator ran a story about it and the recolonization was suddenly cancelled.
The school and the Greek system rallied around the old chapter and said that AXiD wouldn't be welcome back on campus for a long time. That was like 15 years ago, though, so the time could be right again in the future.

The question remains, is there a need to bring another NPC sorority to UF? What is the status on the current NPC sororities on campus? Has every sorority been making their quota every year? And what about housing? I believe APhi still hasn't built their house and they are there 3+ years now.
