I've had some skin issues so I can't risk being out in the sun for hours tanning but I don't want to be super pale for recruitment. Do a lot of people get spray tans or does that look like you're trying too hard? Other products girls use?

A lot of girls do tan/ get a spray tan before. But if you don't feel comfortable, then it's not a big deal if you don't

Honestly just be yourself! A spray tan isn't necessary if you really belong somewhere
