chapter dues

by:

I'm curious as to what the dues are for each of the sororities, because I really want to rush however I'm concerned that money might be tight... Any insight? I already found an average of the dues, but would like to know real numbers.

Plan on spending between $4,000.00 and $8,000.00 per year. And....you're not a baby. You'll likely need a job for summers, breaks or part time. Plenty of students work to pay their dues.

I'm keenly aware that I am not a baby. I didn't need to be reminded. However, I am prohibited from getting a job by my parents and I plan to respect their wishes. There was honestly no need to hand me the slightest bit of attitude.

This is an accurate range. Dues are different at each house.

I have to laugh at the "baby" comment because SO many people use this creepy term!!!!

everyone will tell you that DDD and DZ have the highest dues but ZTA, KD, and Phi Mu have very comparable dues to them. I heard these houses do around 2,500-3,000 a semester.

ADPi/XO/DG/AOPi/AEPhi/AXO have the lowest because their houses have probably been paid off. From what I hear these houses have 2,000 a semester dues.

Phi Phi and KKG are most likely somewhere in the middle, like 2,500.

Feel free to (kindly) correct me if I'm wrong.

Hate to break this to you, but here it goes. If you have to work through school, and pay with loans i.e an irregular greek canidate, then dues for a sorority are fiscaly irresponsible. What you put in as a freshman is so much for so little. Not to mention when you go out with the girls, unless you wanna feel up some dudes for drinks, your gonna have so many disposable costs from all the stuff the sorority doesnt pay for. So if your dues are 2300, your really gonna pay more like 4000, if yoh want to go out and stuff. Lastly, to the girl that said lots of kids work to pay their dues thats a total lie. Just because theres 2 girls that have to do that, doesnt mean everyone is. Having to work and be in a sorority, your gonna lose touch with the other girls so fast, because they get to call daddy for money, and you have to pick up a shift, and your gonna get so tired of their whinning, and you know in the back of your head, they have never actually worked before in their life. And thats the truth.

Nevermind, your already sucking your parents tit, well maybe another girl will see that advice.

I know plenty of girls who work all summer to help pay for their sorority experience. Their parents are paying for college tuition. Not everyone is rich.

First off, this person is completely wrong in saying that lno one works and everyone lives off their parents. Yes, there are many people who do that but there is also a very large group of people who pay for everything themselves. Secondly, I swear to you you will not spend that much going out. When joining a sorority you get 250 sisters. Aka 250 closets to borrow from. I swear to you, at least one older girl will have an outfit for you to wear for any given theme party. And a lot of the time when you go out you'll be going to fraternity parties and drinking free alcohol or going to your bar tab for your social/ date function so you really won't be spending a lot on drinks. Don't let this person scare you away. If you find a home through rush, find a way to make it work financially because it is 100% worth it

I'm not paying with loans or anything... I can very well afford a sorority because I'm going to UF on Prepaid and Bright Futures... I just like to give my family warning of the cost of things I'd like to do... That's all...

Most expensive: DZ (highest dues overall, also must pay for date functions), DDD (currently have nicest house), SK (will soon have the nicest house), GPhi (when they build a new house soon), Pi Phi (roommate say dues are higher than most - correct me if I'm wrong)

Somewhat expensive: KD, KKG, DG (pay to get hazed so hard), Theta, AOPI, AEPHI

Least expensive: ZTA, ADPI (house is fully paid off but kind of run-down), Phi Mu (house is pink...), AXO, DEEPH, CHI O (house is almost fully paid off)

I went DG my freshman year but dropped out before initiation due to hazing issues. Re-rushed last fall and now I'm a DDD... just a little backstory.

Are all the off row ones. (Pi phi, theta, and kkg). You pay more to be on row itself.

Phi Mu is one of the most expensive, ZTA on par w/ KD, Theta, etc.

I'm a phi mu here but my cousin is a ZTA here. We both pay around 370/mo and we don't live in house.

Let's set some wording straight:
-Dues are a monthly or semesterly fee you pay for membership.
-Initiation/NM fees are paid once usually to your nationals your first semester (this is why your first year can be more expensive)
-House fees can be different between chapters, but usually theirs also a first semester fee then a different semesterly fee you pay (all members)
-Meal plans: suck it up, we all pay for food, so why not have it served to you and cleaned up after? Plus you get to hang with sisters during meals.
-Room & Board (living in the house) usually includes everything:housing, utilities, cable, Internet, AND meal plans. This will usually be an optional fee, depends on your chapter. I imagine this will make GPhiB more expensive (adding housing fees and the option to live in house); unsure on SK, they had a long time to plan and save plus the already having land and such (which GPhiB would have had to purchase on top of an expensive house to build).

SK's dues will not be anything compared to DZ because they've saved up for their new house for decades. Any member in that house can confirm their dues aren't higher than $2,000 (including food) and its staying that way.

On another note, for any house, just ask the sisters during rush. Don't be embarrassed to ask about finances because you're afraid it's not classy or you'll sound "poor". If a college woman cannot understand the importance behind being financially responsible and informed then you don't want to be associated with her. I believe a lot of chapters are pushing Pan to give more precise estimate for each house instead of a range which will help PNMs make better decisions during recruitment. Yeah it sucks for houses with high dues or for girls who want a specific house but can't afford it, but you gotta work with what you got :)

For the last time... SK's dues WILL NOT be going up whatsoever. Ask literally any member and they will tell you exactly that.
