Yes, for some sororities there are people who go through Instagrams and Facebook profiles for PNM's they are interested in.

They can look at social media to get a feel of you before you go through recruitment. As for helping/hurting you, it can go both ways. If you are posting things that make you look like you could be a risk management issue before you even step foot into their house for Round 1, it's really going to hurt how you are perceived by the sororities. If you post pictures of you doing things that make them see you as someone who could be a fun, involved sister, it can obviously help their perceptions of you prior to meeting you

I think for most houses it's a case-by-case basis. Are we going to look at every PNM's social media Round 1? Not at all. But if it hits Round 3 and we are unsure, we will look to clarify.

It's more from an individual member perspective rather than on the chapter's end. An active member who knows of a pnm would probably look at her social media to get a better idea of if she would fit in the chapter

my chapter keeps a google doc of girls who our members personally know going through recruitment that year, and we write a short note about them/their interests/likes, dislikes etc (almost always positive), and recommend people who would be a good match to recruit them. i guess some people look girls up on fb from that list but other than that, no ones really concerned about it. and were definitely all too tired/blurred out to even think about lurking yall during recruitment itself lol
