how much of a time commitment is greek life?

If I'm taking 4 classes and have a part-time job will I have enough time to participate? Especially with living off campus I'm afraid I might not be able to make everything. How many meetings and events are there a month on average? Is it okay if I have to miss some events?

If you pledge a good fraternity you're gonna be busy as hell the first semester. No chapter will drop you for missing because of work or school though those are both acceptable excuses

You'll be totally fine! Greek life is what you make of it. You can decide how many events and how much time you want to put into it. Chapters are held once a week and most chapters (sororities & fraternities) usually only have 2-3 (or even less) mandatory events a semester. Many girls and guys live off campus and have jobs and internships!
