this website

This website is meaningless. All the positive comments are self-ranks, and all the negative ones are haters who just want to bring other organizations down with all 1's. There's barely any honest comments on any of the organizations' pages. We should all just stop going on here.

This is directed to the people who give out 1 star spam. This makes our Greek life look crappier than it is. Why do this to our Greek life? I know this is a website and all but this is a stepping stone for what to expect in Greek life. If all the GDIs see are hateful comments on every fraternity and sorority, do you really think they'll want to commit to a community like that? Get real. We should just say the positive things of each organization and leave out the negatives. Leave your 1 star spam for somewhere else and rate the organization truly.

Instead of being so focused on what other people think of you, you should change your behaviors and do things that make people speak positively of you. Instead of focusing on these insignificant things, why don't we work on making the biggest impact we can while we are active members of our respective organizations and as NYU Greeks, holding up the pillars of greek life, and the ideals that all of our chapters have. I don't know about you guys but some of my fondest memories in greek life was volunteering at an after school program reading to children (which aligns with our national philanthropy), and hanging out with our NYDM heroes. We all party, we all make our mistakes, but rather than highlighting them we should work as a community to change it. And speaking on behalf of myself and not the rest of greek life, I don't care about the negative comments you guys write on my chapters page. Oh they're "awkward," or "less popular," "weird," "whales" or any of the other nasty things that have been said on here. Because at the end of the day, when I look at myself and my sister I see involved, ambitious, down to earth, sweet girls, welcoming, and honest girls, and I think that speaks volumes for our chapter and our organization as a whole. I can honestly say I have never wrote a nasty thing on this website and I hope it's just a small minority of greek life that does participate in this forum.

As long as their is a rank or percentage system put in place on this website it will fail to be an accurate representation of greek life at NYU. There is no honesty in a lot of these ranking when people are voting down other chapters to elevate their own percentage or rank.

Also the wide array of disrespect from people here is just plain nasty. In theory this website is great because you find out the truth about organizations and not fall for the lies they tell you during recruitment and new member process, but it has just became a place to perpetuate stigmas. Yes some of them are warranted and needed, for example if a chapter hazes and you do not want to be a part of that, you should have access to that information before you sign your bid sheet on pref night. If an chapter has terrible sisterhood and cattiness, you should know that before the new member process or initiation, especially if joining a sorority here was to find a "home away from home." However, what is not necessary is saying things like "this chapter take the leftovers from recruitment," "by far the best sorority," "social butterflies that every frat begs to mix with" or other things along this line. Everyone rushes at the same time, so how exactly can one or two particular chapters take the "leftovers?" We all handle voting, preferencing, etc. the same nights so it's not possible.

Because let's face it, we do all these laffayette and kimmel tablings to show we "enhance our community" in hopes of getting a better house or FSL awards. We donate all this money to add it to our end of the year presentations. Why don't we focus on making a positive change in our greater community and not just kissing up to Lafayette Residence Hall or the FSL office. Why don't we focus on how many community service hours we have spent and what we accomplished with those hours or building relationships with local outreach programs. Because at the end of the day, these rankings, looks, and popularity will fade.

many people participate in Greek life for the social life, not the philanthropy and service opportunities. if someone really cared about that stuff, they'd be much better off on NYU's Civic Team or some other club. philanthropy and service is great, but personally, Greek life is about friendship and socialization, so the amount of philanthropy/service/money raised doesn't really matter to me. not that it's not a good plus, but if someone truly cares about a particular service/philanthropy, they'd be much better off joining a club / volunteering somewhere that actually specializes in service, not a Greek organization that focuses on friendship & socialization with some service and philanthropy thrown in on the side for fun & PR purposes.

so basically, i wanted to refute your point that chapters should be mainly judged on the amount of service they commit. that isn't the purpose of Greek life (although it is, of course, a nice added bonus), so when people criticize chapters for being awkward, cliquey, snobby, whatever, i think those are important criticisms to keep in mind and look out for when you're rushing. anyway, agree with the sentiment that people should be less hateful on this site... lots of lies floating around about hazing and other fake scandals... not necessary.
