by: hmmmMiami has such a preppy reputation but most of the girls I see on campus wear vineyard vines on occasion and have a few lilly dresses and some j crew stuff...they don't seem very preppy at all im just wondering where the reputation comes from? maybe I've just seen the wrong girls

I think miami is considered preppy in overall appearance and attitude, because it's not just a manner of dress. There are a lot of stereotypically "preppy" brands on campus, but in my mind dressing preppy just means looking put together and polished in a classic sort of way. The fact that we dress up to go to parties and bars is preppy in and of itself, since that's not a thing at other schools really. Also I think you're defining preppy in a southern way with Lilly, bows, pearls, etc. Miami is definitely more northern prep with j crew, hunter, barbour, etc.

Agreed. I have a lot of friends at big 10 schools... They all wear flannels around the waist and frat tanks to day parties and are shocked at girls who wear cute army jackets and riding boots to the bars here. Miami's preppy reputation really has nothing to do with certain brands, but more of how everyone always looks so polished and put together
