New Sorority?!

by: Confusion

Coming from a frat guy,

Why would yall pick AOII instead of PhiMu? Yes AOII is good at some places, but PhiMu beats AOII. I think that yall chosen AOII, because PhiMu will def rise up quick to be top house and cause commotion with the top houses. Not doubting AOII, but Clemson is southern university and PhiMu came from a southern background, not AOII. Look at Bama..

AOPi had a much better presentation than Phi Mu, more polished, better prepared, more convincing of their commitment of resources, alumnae support, and plan for success. Every sorority starts from scratch when they colonize at a new campus from pnm's who are students at that school; their founding history has nothing to do with how well they are prepared right now, today, to come on to a large campus and build a quality chapter. Letters are not what gets pnm's excited about joining a sorority, it's the actual people they meet and how they can sell what the chapter has to offer them and how they are going to build it up, and the letters of a new chapter don't suddenly start attracting a certain type of woman to attend that school. A reminder for you that sororities are for women and for what women want and what is best for them, they don't exist for frat boys and their opinions. It doesn't work like your frat boy fantasy of establishing a sorority clone of a chapter you happen to be obsessed with at a different school so you can have that at your supposed disposal.

Everyone knows AOPi is the TKE of sororities. Chapters everywhere but low membership at 90% of the Chapters.

There are good ones though. UGA AOPi is fantastic but will they be able to repeat that success when they are continually closing chapters because of membership decline.

is there a good assessment of why DG struggled to recruit? can't imagine it's going to be any better for AOPi.

Phi Mu would have been able to recruit on name recognition alone. I think that's the problem DG had. They are a great national sorority, but they have no real presence in the South.

Well, Clemson is attracting more out of state students coming from states up north where there is no name recognition for phi mu, and also from Florida where they have an okay rep at FSU and struggle at UF. There are tons of girls from Georgia at Clemson but both phi mu and AOPi have excellent in-state reps there. Names aren't good enough any more, it's the actual members and how nice the house is.

when you are starting a new chapter. the name is all you have and it wasn't enough for DG.

Yes exactly because it's NOT about the name. The idea that some pnm's would intentionally pass up joining an existing chapter at Clemson to start a new one just for the letters is ridiculous. That's not what pnm's do and that's not how it happens. And that's NOT the group of girls a sorority would be looking for to found their new chapter. Because actually, when you are starting a new chapter, it is all about the group of pnm's that did not join one of the existing chapters during formal recruitment but are still interested in, and good candidates for, a sorority. Some great girls fall through the cracks because they don't rush well or because the recruitment experience is just way too much, and some don't go through recruitment at all but get interested in the process of being a founding member for a new chapter they can help mold. And some are juniors that are highly desired for a new chapter startup for their maturity and leadership. That founding group of girls is all you have when you are starting a new chapter, and when that group is sharp and dedicated to building their new chapter and has been carefully selected for that purpose, that chapter will start off successfully and a couple more good rushes will set them up.
