Do you need to be a full time student (12+ units) to join a sorority? What happens if you have less than 12 units in a semester after initiation?

Yes, you must be a full time student. You will be placed on a temporary alumni/inactive status if you do not have enough units.

You need 12 units after initiation to be a active member.
