cob
by: ActiveWanted to start a thread so girls could understand a bit how COB works. COB is continuous open bidding and happens mostly in the spring but some houses do it right after fall formal recruitment also. Keep in mind that not all houses do COB! Spring 2019 the houses that did were AXO, ADPi, AOPi, DG, Zeta, and Phi Mu. COB is used to add more members in case too many dropped or something similar. The best way to get invited to COB (yes you must be invited, you can’t just show up) is to meet some girls in each chapter who would recommend you for it, or to reach out to Greek life. COB is much less formal, for example, some houses have an ice cream social where you meet ladies in the chapter to start COB. Good luck ladies!

A lot of sororities require members to be involved with other groups on campus. Figure out what other groups you can get involved in. Build your resume during your first semester, volunteer, find ways to prove leadership. Sororities will want to COB well rounded girls who are social, smart, and involved, not girls who go out every night and party and skip classes.

Make sure you have great grades first semester. I contacted Greek life and said I was interested in cob. A girl on my dorm floor asked me to come to a pizza party at her sorority. Later she said they wanted to give me a bid but my grades were to low for what they were looking for. So I had to bring my grades up and go thru recruitment as a sophomore.

Contact Greek Life and over next next few weeks and ask them if they can provide you with additional information. You might work your interest in COB in conversations with girls who received bids so you're on their radar. If your interested in pursuing COB, new sororities colonizing, or rushing again next year keep a few things in mind during your first semester: keep your grades up, be nice to everyone, be social and make friends, keep a positive reputation and attitude.
