gpa cutoff upperclassmen

by: Grades

Hi! I’m rushing as an upperclassman, is the grade cut off different? Is it still mostly a 3.0, or does it dip below or above for a college gpa?

Frat GPA- must be a 2.75 to rush
sorority GPA- must be a 2.50 to rush however almost every house requires a 3.0
This does not change for high school or college & it’s unweighted

What are the houses that don’t require a 3.0

I don’t know of any that only want a 2.5 but I know for a fact Alpha Gam, Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, Delta Zeta, Theta, Pi Phi, & Sigma Kappa all cut under 3.0 (sometimes even higher)

What about if you have well above a 2.5 but not quite a 3.0 unweighted? But than you have above a 3.0 weighted. Will they take into account that your weighted gpa is higher and that you took more challenging classes

Nope. They don’t receive your weighted GPA. A lot of schools (especially in AZ) over inflate their students GPAs so colleges often do not consider them. Which means sororities don’t. Also it would not be fair to compare future freshman to current students because in college they don’t have weighted GPA.
All they care about is your last semester GPA.

From what I understand they look at both but mostly the most recent one.

Why does ASU set the sorority gpa minimum at 2.5 if the sororities cut those under 3.0? why not just set the minimum at 3.0?

My group is only willing to take an upperclassmen with grades is the 3.5 + range or above a 3.0 with college leadership. You can get a bid to a house as an upperclassman but it is a little more challenging. Good luck.

Wow! I have above a 3.0 but not near a 3.5+. Is this rule common in most sorority chapters for upperclassmen?

This depends on the house. Some just cut everyone under a 3.0 on the first day without really considering anything else. Some houses if you are close and the girl who talked to you liked you they may fight for you.
This is also why it is important to get rec letters because it’s more sisters saying they like you

The GPA’s listed above are fall. Spring GPA’s were higher with the all sorority average at a 3.35.

sororities have different preferences but a handful cut below a 3.0. even a couple bottom tier sororities cut below a 3.0. you do need at least a 2.5 to go through recruitment though

Tbh I’m in a “bottom house” and we cut at 3.0
It all comes down to different standards

^ see it really doesnt matter about rankings. the rankings are bs in general but "bottom tier" sororitys take gpa's just as serious as mid and top sororitys besides probs theta bc those girls are smart smart

some chapters that recruit well have to release a lot of the pool after first round. grades are the easiest way to hit that number. that is why a lot of chapters release grades right away. sometimes chapters will take grade exceptions like a legacy, an insta famous girl. i only know of one chapter that doesn't require a certain GPA so if you are super pretty or insta famous you can get a bid from them.

Would it be harder to get an exception for being “pretty” at this school bc asu is like known for having really pretty girls

When they are saying super pretty think 12/10 professional model lowkey famous level. Like in the top .01% of the girls going through recruitment

If you are rushing a frat the gpa isn’t the biggest deal if your a cool guy that people vibe with!

This is false. ASU does not let someone join if they are below the GPA requirement. It’s an ASU rule not a Fraternity rule.
I know a couple of guys that are “cool guys that people vibe with” and they did not get let into fraternities because of their GPA.
We are in college. Grades are the #1 priority. The requirement Greek Life has is the same requirement the college has to continue to be enrolled in classes. You can not join a Frat or Sorority if you are on academic probation.
