is the glv actually going to survive?

by: Frats

I think sororities have a good reason to live in the GLV but for frats it just doesn't make sense to live in one. You're paying around $700 to share a small room with someone while you could easily pay a lot less to live in a house or apartment, you can't party in it, and you don't even own it you lease it from ASU. It makes sense to have one for rush but it's just hard to find any good reason for someone to actually live in one. It really limits the number of party houses frats have because most of the sophomores and juniors need to live in the house but those are usually the ones that want to party. I know a lot of fraternities are having trouble filling the houses so will it continue?

If I recall correctly it’s a 10 year lease everybody signed, so yeah it’s gonna continue for a long time. It does suck having to fill 30+ spots with the guys that wanna party and throw down, but I’m pretty sure that’s why ASU did it. It’s a way to control the fraternities to an extent. They want to make sure around 1/3 (half for the smaller fraternities) the guys can’t get party houses. It sucks but that’s how it has to be. What sucks more is that once you’re in you don’t want to get out. Fraternities not in the glv (with the exception of a few) have struggled a lot with recruiting this year and are starting to become irrelevant. It doesn’t matter if you’re a top house (KSig) or a mid house (Sig Pi)... your recruitment will struggle without the glv. There’s also like a waiting list of 10 fraternities trying to get in bc they all realize how much they need it.

yeah unless you’re Sig Chi or Delta Sig not being in the GLV is a problem. Lower houses like SNu PhiTau or SAE have risen this year solely on being in the GLV which has allowed them to recruit well this year.
