are letters of rec necessary to get into a good house

I'm an incoming freshman planning on rushing and I was told by girls who go to another school that letters of rec are necessary to get into any mid to top tier house. I'm just wondering how true that is here and if I should be trying to get a letter of rec for most of the houses or if I'm fine with just one or two?

It does not matter that much here. It only places you slightly higher during Round 1, and you may be paired slightly better with a member of whichever sorority you have a letter for - only because they know more about you. Letters are very important for legacy's.
