in your opinion why/is greek life worth the money
by: ..I'm interested in Greek life but my parents are very anti Greek and won't help me at all with dues and anything else with it so I was wondering do u think paying dues as well as the unsaid costs like clothing, parties that kinda thing would be worth it? And what are some of the direct benefits you get out of the money besides just being in a certain chapter

fraternity chapters don't turn a profit. Think of all the money you and the brothers pay in dues as a slush fund for doing cool stuff that would be much more expensive/impossible on your own. The money from dues goes to paying for things like brotherhood events (suns/diamondbacks games, laser tag, etc), getting venues for parties, going to vegas for formal, etc. If you weren't in a frat, and tried to do all the same activities, you would spend more money (frats get big group discounts).

On a different note from that guy^
Yes there are more parties and social activities to do but there are benefits. You network a lot more and make a ton of connections, you're invited to events ou wouldn't know about as a GDI and you're more likely involved more on campus activities. It looks significantly better to have it on a resume and that you've raised money and volunteered for organizations and if you become an exec for your chapter you learn a lot of experience on running different things. I would say it's definitely worth it

Sororities are a similar idea yes, except they are def more expensive than frats on average and more money goes to nationals for various charter dues. One of my good friends was in the same situation as you in my chapter (which is one of the more expensive ones) and she liked it but was constantly at work earning money to pay her dues. So she was always working and missing events she was paying for, like socials and date parties and sisterhoods. It's kind of a vicious cycle that takes a toll if you're paying for them without any help. She ended up dropping because it was too much. The reality is a lot of people in Greek life have their dues paid for by their parents. Along with that, you still have to pay for certain things like philanthropy gear, lots and lots of crafts when you're taking a little, buying appropriate clothing for chapter/ events. Greek life is an amazing experience but it does cost money
