odds (sorority rush)

by: help

upcoming junior, GPA-3.4 Barrett student
I know pi phi, theta, dz, and kappa have taken juniors; what are my odds for these houses? I would give myself a soft 5.5 in terms of looks

I know you are anxious but there is no way anyone can answer this. It all depends on how you do in person. You might be a 20/10 on paper and are gorgeous but you also need to be personable. A not so attractive girl who has a great conversation and personality could do way better then a better looking one at a lot of sororities. But then there is that one where all that matters is looks....

Pi phi and theta are both long shots honestly. The only times these houses have taken juniors they have all been gorgeous girls with big social media followings that can rep them well. That 5.5 won't really cut it, especially because you only have a 3.4 gpa too, which doesn't appeal to the academic side of either of those houses. Most likely kappa

its unfortunate because if she had a nearly perfect 3.7 or so and was very pretty i could easily see it with her academic value is all you need sometimes

as a junior rushing as well, I'm going to tell you what a lot of my friends in sororities have told me, and it's to be open minded when you go through rush. I have a great gpa and I'm like a 7ish looks wise, but I know that ASU rushing for juniors is a bit hard. there's a few posts on here that have decent advice about rushing/the houses so I recommend finding and reading those :)

it's hard to base your odds off of what houses have taken in the past, because you don't know what the situations were - she might have known girls in the house, had AMAZING grades, or just really connected during recruitment. That being said, just know that your conversations will likely differ from those who are freshmen, and there will likely be different standards/ expectations since you're older

Recruitment at asu is only getting more and more competitive. Still nothing like the south, but still, sororities want members that can grow for 4 years. Those girls can pay dues, be littles and bigs and gbig, and grow into leadership roles into the chapter. Very, very few houses think juniors can do all that in the short 2 years they're there. Top houses like pi phi or theta take maybe 1 or 2 juniors and 99% of the time those girls already have a million friends in the sorority who vouch for them, which goes a long way. The cuts you recieve as a junior after the first round with be very deep, and reality is juniors make it into lower middle tier at best, unless very rare circumstances.
