Frat Spring rush

Considering rushing in the spring. Is there a difference in doing this in the spring vs fall? Do they take less people? Any recommendations on what frats to avoid if you are not looking for any sort of excessive drinking, hazing, etc...?

KA, Pike, Pi kapp, D Sig and Sig nu all have particularly bad hazing

I read on a post some frats hit pledges. Not interested in that at all. Are these ones to avoid?
