Disaffiliation
by: HmI wonder given how strict jmu rules have gotten and how they continue to get stricter, if fraternities are going to disaffiliate with the school just like West Virginia and USC, i understand how these rules are meant to make people “safer” but it also ends up holding students liable for not following these rules which are impossible to follow, for example providing lists of the exact number and people attending the event (which we know is impossible) and registering every event (despite still getting visits from police), and many more on top of this. I really hope fsl gives Greek like a voice or a say in these rules because if orgs were to disaffiliate jmu would no longer have power over them and in turn more people could actually get hurt. I keep hearing more and more members of Greek life upset because of these increasingly restrictive rules (more and more added each year). Like everything in life there should be a balance and I hope jmu and fsl actually work for Greek orgs rather than constantly reprimand them, after all every fraternity was already moved off campus. Why should they stay?

jmu rules have been extremely lax compared to almost any other school, it’s honestly both amazing and terrifying what we’ve gotten away with for so long. Ultimately though it is a huge risk for the Greek community as a whole to not adhere to similar rules that bigger schools follow
