rushing as a junior transfer?
by: vapsych97
I am a current rising sophomore at a Virginia school considering transferring to JMU. If I transferred, I would love to join a sorority. But I know that being a Junior would really hurt my chances of getting a bid anywhere. I have a ton of good friends in different houses (Zeta, DDD, Aphi, Adpi, etc.), would this help me at all? Be honest with me, would I have a shot? Another piece of info, I would probably do an extra year of college, I need to get my GPA up to apply to Med School.

I think you need a 2.5 to rush but most sororities including mine I feel like want a 3 or over. Rushing as a sophomore doesn't hurt your chances (except for zeta, they pretty much only take freshman). A lot of my friends and I rushed as sophomores and all got our top choices... we didn't feel like we were at a disadvantage to the freshman. Rushing as a junior does, you need to standout because the sorority will only have you for two years. Sororities do take them though! Having friends already in the house helps you to a certain extent but doesn't garauntee you a bid. When you rush your friends can put in a good word for you to give you an edge but ultimately it's up to the people who you talk to in rounds to decide if you are called back.
This is only my opinion!!! I don't know about others.
