Does former SigEp need to strike a deal with another national frat and get recognized in order to be successful?

If they had been truly quality guys, they wouldn't have been kicked out of Sigep.

The national staff did not pull their charter on a simple whim. No doubt this was a high risk chapter with ongoing problems. When chapters are like this, they have many advisors from the national staff working with them. There comes a time when the actions of some are putting the entire chapter at risk. If they recruited same or "like" individuals, the issues would continue to grow and multiply. The charter will be pulled for a minimum of 5 years. That gives all the current members time to graduate and when the chapter returns they (and their traditions) are gone and the train wreck is over. They need to understand this was a drastic measure done to protect the fraternity.

I am confused why the national didn't aggressively work with the local to root out the source of the issues in terms of specific individuals being terminated. I think it was in Florida a few years ago that a national worked with a local house to terminate some members that they believed contributed to the risk mgmt issues that were a source of concern. The house then stayed on probation for another year and then was off of probation and hasn't had issues since. I haven't heard that anything like that happened here. I believe the issues were serious to close the house but not so sure the leadership from national was proactive and strong enough to resolve the situation such that the house didn't have to close. I heard from a friend at Tennessee that the Sig Ep situation there was somewhat similar in that the national tried a few things for a year to address risk issues but that they threw in the towel once the trust was broken too many times. My friend thought that if the Theta house leadership had been turned over and a few cliques removed from the house that things perhaps could have been changed. Its always a difficult call on how to change a house culture but closing a house seems quite drastic.

Context is everything. Remember at the Balanced Man Celebration at Nashville Conclave when they were called up to receive their charter with everyone clapping... but they weren't even there?

They were drunk and got arrested and so weren't at the charter ceremony when their name was called for them to come up and celebrate.

YO WTF. SIGEP HAS MORE POTENTIAL THAN MOST THESE FRATERNITIES ABOVE THEM. just because they got in trouble last semester doesn't mean they are falling off! They had one of the best pledge classes last semester and mixed with the hottest sororities.

IF they keep getting pledges and initiating new brothers, then they'll survive. sororitys mix with them.

AST doesn't count. ASA probably does.

Actually ASA is traditionally under-ranked year after year.

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.

Sounds like you want to make up and get back together - or least have one last sloppy rebound hookup.

They mix well enough that it really doesn't affect their ranking

They need to do better than SDT and ASA.

For those of you former SigEps who are posting, did you serve on your exec board? Run your recruitment? Chair your Greek Week? Attend Carlsons? Ruck? Applied to Quest to Greece? Thinking of joining a national committee?

Because it seems to me that you're awfully good at talking about what you perceive to be wrong, so you should do something about it. I'm curious as to whether or not you've tried to change it, or you just like talking about it. The thing that most people seem to forget is that Headquarters does not run SigEp. SigEps run Headquarters.

And if you have an issue with how something is run, is it more effective to point out shortcomings or to run it yourself?

The only man that keeps you down is you.
