Granted there are way more than ten, but I have compiled a list of some of the best restaurants near a few major universities.  Although this list doesn’t include places that could be close to you, I encourage you to venture out and find some really great places to eat.  Together we shall thwart this thing called “Hangry.”

1. Jacksonville State University. Jacksonville, Alabama.
One of the best places to eat near this university is Rockets Drive Inn.  It a small hole in the wall that you could barely fit into, but the food is oh so good.  They have regular American fare including Bar-B-q, soups, salads, and freshly made hamburgers.  If you want to grab a big lunch or dinner, this is the place to do it. You get more bang for your buck.

2. University of Texas at Austin.  Austin, Texas.
Kerbey Lane Cafe is just a stone's throw from the University of Texas at Austin. They are open 24/7 and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  With meals such as Eggs Benedict, Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf, and even Mimosas you are sure to get an all around experience here.  Whether you are stopping in to sit and have brunch or sweeping through on your way to class, Kerbey Lane has something for everyone.

3. University of California at Los Angeles.  Los Angeles, CA.
Welcome to Diddy Riese. One of the best dessert shops in California. I know what you are thinking, and no this is not a typical restaurant. But I had to add it because of their homemade ice cream sandwiches. Move over Blue Bell, because Diddy Riese has arrived.  Maybe you are one of these people that eat more dessert than regular food, If so, this is the place for you.  Once you ace your Intro to Humanities course, drop by here for a sweet reward.

4. New York University.  New York, New York.
The Grey Dog is a homey coffeehouse cafe just a few minutes from the University.  They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Plus it’s a great place to grab a drink with your fraternity or sorority brothers and sisters. Whatever club you belong to, try going here for you next meeting, or if you're in a rush grab your favorite coffee on the way to class.  You gotta keep those grades up, and caffeine helps.

5. Savannah College of Art & Design.  Savannah, Georgia.
Welcome to the best preserved part of Georgia’s history; Savannah. There are upscale and downscale places to eat in Savannah, but sometimes you just crave some good pizza and beer.  Well fret no more my friends and hop on over to Your Pie.  It’s a pizzeria where you can choose your own bread, cheese, sauce, and toppings.   They are open late, so it’s a great time to get a late-night snack while you are cramming for your midterms.

6. University of Virginia.  Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Sedona Taphouse is a eclectic restaurant/bar. This place makes for a great night on the town with friends.  They have great food, great service, and seasonal beers.  For example, Pumpkin beer.  So if you are ever in the area drop by, they would love to have you.

7. Washington University.  Spokane, Washington.
Now I can’t forget the folks who are dedicated to going green, or the vegans, or the gluten-free crowd.  So when you get done with your class work, and need a refreshing meal, head over to Boots Bakery & Lounge.  Dedicated to serving a wide variety of people, they have vegan, gluten free, and great bakes. They also have coffee and cocktails.  So hop a train, bike, or car and visit Boots Bakery & Lounge.

Whether you are chipping away at the ice block called “Studying,” or soaking up some of those Florida rays, Bagel & Deli shop in Miami, Florida has some great eats.  The food is just as expected; bagels.  But not just any bagels, bagel sandwich creations.  Get some of your favorite sandwiches on bagels instead of boring white bread. Enjoy in the comfort of your own dorm, or on the white sandy beaches.

9. Harvard University.  Cambridge, Massachusetts.
I can’t leave out the Ivy League students in this quest for great eats.  Super-genious people (and not so super-genious people) get hungry too.  While you are rapidly firing your neurons studying, take a break and head over to Border Cafe.  It’s another great place for late-night study meals.  Offering a tex-mex cuisine, you can fill up on great food plus some great beer and wine selections.

10. University of Rhode Island. Kingston, Rhode Island.
Last but certainly not least on our top-ten quest is International Pocket Cafe, near the University of Rhode Island.  With fantastic mediterranean fare, you get a lot of food for less money.  What struggling college kid doesn’t like that?  One of their most popular dishes is the Super Meat Turbo complete with beef, chicken, steak, grape leaves and falafel.  If you’re in the vicinity, drop by and eat to your hearts content.
