Greek Population: IU has a fairly large greek population that is very exclusive and rooted heavily in their tier-based caste system. However all greeks on the campus have a large sense of entitlement (not in a bad or snobby way persay) over non-greeks who are viewed very negatively here. Many greeks, but not all, are out of staters, and a large portion are Kelley Business students. Housing Quality: There are lots of houses here, and most of them are very cool and very visually appealing, often sororities moreso than fraternities. No one here should be disappointed with their houses when compared to othet schools with smaller and less impressive greek houses. Involvement: Philanthropy at IU is secondary to the social scene, but all greeks here try to make an effort to contribute to their particuarly philanthropy in some way. Social Scene: IU itself is a party school, and as such the parties here at fraternities are even better than the movies. A lower tier greek party at IU is on par with most bangers and ragers at normal schools. No one comes to IU let down by how Hoosiers throw down. Attractiveness: Many people get into upper tier greek houses by virtue of association, and as such it's reflected in the overall attractiveness of the IU greeks. There are smoking hot guys/girls in every house here as well as more embarrassing brothers/sisters in the mix. Gender Ratio: Sororities often have more girls per PC than Fraternities, and that helps even the numbers out a little- but the facts are that there are slightly more guys in greek life than girls, but that doesn't matter much due to the sheer size of IU's greek life. Hazing: It happens. It's worse in some houses, especially top tiers, but it exists in virtually all of them to some degree. Sororities, especially middle tier and bottom tier, have significantly less issues with hazing than the guys do. IU and Nationals have tried to cut down on this, and as such the intensity, but not the occurance of, hazing is under a little bit lf scrutinization. Selectivity: Being greek at IU is an honor, and as such all upper and middle tier houses are highly selective. Many you must know someone to get into or be very smart, very wealthy, very athletic, very likeable, or very attractive. Even the lower tier guys can afford to be picky here, because IU's lower tier is on par with many other schools middle tiers. Overall: IU's greek life is amazing. Few walk out with anything short of one of the best experiences of their entire lives. I highly recommend anyone coming to IU or at IU as a sophomore to at least give recruitment/rushing a chance.
