Think about where you're from and where you want to live after graduation. If you're from Alabama and want to move home after graduation, a Southern house is perfect for you. If you're not from Alabama and/or plan to live elsewhere after graduation, I think that a less Southern house's girls will have more in common with you, and offer more opportunities after graduation. There are some big Southern houses here who have very little alumnae presence on the East or West coasts. Also, my real sister pledged a very "Mississippi tradition" house at Ole Miss (our legacy) and did not fit in with the girls very well because she wasn't from Jackson. Her best friends all ended up in chapters that attract OOS girls (we are from TX) and I think she would have been happier in one of those houses than her prestigious Mississippi house.
