First of all, the houses you say you don't want are full of awesome girls and they have GPA standards. You would be very lucky to be invited back to any of them if they saw something in you, and you can't afford to be any kind of picky with that GPA. Second, considering that you've had some financial hardship, sorority membership is probably not something you can afford, so you had better do some research on the cost and rethink the idea of rushing. Third, it's great that you have overcome some difficulty to get to come to Bama, but your background wouldn't get you a sympathy vote and wouldn't make up for bad grades.
