Alum here. That first comment is obviously from someone who has never been in a sorority and has picked up some things here and there, maybe from this awful site, trying to play pretend sorority girl. The real rec info: Recs hold very little weight. Most nationals have, blessedly, dropped the requirement, and there is one sorority here that no longer even accepts them. With that said, it would never hurt to have one for the more desired, stronger recruiting houses. And many sororities don't require that a rec be written only by an alum now, which makes it easier.
