The truth is you need to be able to make an honest assessment of how connected you are and then where you stand academically and with your leadership. Most pnms are going to be somewhere in the middle. Then you need to manage your expectations going into rush. The best thing someone told me is that even though there are 17 chapters- you only will be invited to rush at best half of them, and you don’t know which ones until philanthropy day. The average pnm will get 6 to 8 invites on philanthropy. These are the ones to now get to know and to be enthusiastic for. The problem with being on GR is it tends to put chapters into three tiers, with everyone focusing too much on the top. Those chapters are strong recruiting chapters and they have to release pnms very early on, and focus on the ones they know well or have certain attributes they need. Focus on the middle and lower tiers before rush, to find a few that you think might be interesting to you also. Keep an open mind. All the chapters at Alabama are good and the way rush is designed is to give all of them a good chapter of new members- so they continue to thrive. Last piece of advice is that people only care about your “letters” for 5 minutes after bid day… after that it’s all the effort that you make to get involved in your chapter and make friends and build your relationships. Keep an open mind and realize that getting a bid to any one of these chapters is a huge accomplishment
