This is exactly why legacy courtesy invitations and recommendation letters are no longer required for many NPC sororities. For generations, these two long-standing procedural requirements were useful tools for membership selection, for both PNMs and chapters. But they became unwieldy and irrelevant barriers to the process in recent years. 1) Too many legacies coming through had taken away much of the chapters' self-determination in membership selection, as well as limiting opportunities for the PNMs, when every legacy got an automatic invitation and/or priority on bid lists at the expense of other PNMs. 2) So many PNMs coming through made acquiring and processing the associated mandatory recommendation letters an unwelcome burden on chapters and PNMs alike, so much so that recs became impersonal and meaningless for the most part and completely unattainable for some PNMs, with many chapters ignoring the requirement long ago. With these two roadblocks out of the way, chapters can focus more on selecting for best fit, and PNMs have greater accessibility to membership.
