<strong>Subject:</strong><br />Diversity at UA houses<br /><br /> Poster Message:
Curious peoples thoughts on sororities becoming more diverse (beyond race). I think it’s hard to claim sororities aren’t diverse when there already aren’t many POC, lower socio-economic status, liberal/progressive girls that go through rush to begin with. Also, rush is a personal experience and girls want to go where they fit in. People claim KAT and SK are diverse but really they’re just the more progressive sororities who don’t really fit one of the sorority girl molds. Why would they all of a sudden want to go a house where they wouldn’t fit in? Let’s not forget when Gphi tried this approach they were ridiculed and placed at the bottom of the barrel for years until they got a new house and rebranded. Once they started taking a different kind of girl, they were more respected and moved up. My point in that is that people call for sororities to expand they’re “type” to diversify but once they do, you’ll say they’re slipping or bad, or have a sisterhood divide. So what do sororities need to actually do different, if anything? Also, should fraternities (IMO who make no effort) be held accountable as well?
