Theta has been at Bama for over 50 years, and for most of that time they were a mid NR srat. At Bama, one of Theta’s eventual problems was that when they came to campus, they were an old, well-established National srat vs a southern focused srat, so they have always had a stronger OOS draw vs instate draw. This piece explains a lot about their eventual lower rank: 1) OOS members were looked down upon in the past. 2) More OOS members means less traditionally southern views and more open to independent views, also a minus for Theta. 3) More independent views lead to Theta being the only srat to decline membership to the machine when stats were invited to join. Several NR mids on campus fall into1&2 above, but 3 pushed them to the bottom. Theta has and continues to get the great members. However, now OOS is not taboo. Now, as all srats bring in more OOS, all are becoming a little less traditionally southern. Finally, many could care less about the machine. Theta’s past perceived minuses are becoming the norm.
