This is one of those cringe worthy comments. There are only 700 billionaires in the US and for what it’s worth none in Alabama. Billionaire children are not part of the equation in Bama Greek life, and frankly nor are they a “majority” anywhere. This is a very exclusive club and while you may know the names (Bezos, Walton, Koch, Gates, etc) it’s a silly benchmark as a reference to life in ANY given place. By contrast there are over 20 million millionaires in the US. Hardly a distinction! So what is wealth? 5, 10 and 100 million are all notable thresholds (and both a far cry from billionaire). Generally, I believe many would be surprised by the level of wealth among the students - and particularly Greek students - at Bama. Wealth in the tens of million not “billions” arena - still one percenters, which takes about an $11 million net worth. And just so we don’t get too confused “old money” has nothing to do with either, even the billionaires - there are very few “old money” billionaires. And just because Mom wears “Lilly and pearls” and “Ashley” is in an old row house doesn’t mean your money is “old” - even if there is a boat load of it!
