I am going to answer this from an instate perspective, because this is why I was turned off by zta when I rushed and I think many instate girls share this view. Okay. ZTA has always been looked down upon by instaters because they were one of the first 3 sororities on campus but were not old row. Like it or not, this severely impacted their rush and membership in the 90s and 2000s (before people started coming to Alabama because of the football and partying). Okay. So, to build their rep and standing, ZTA started focusing on getting really cute girls, no matter the cost. They took mostly out of state girls before any other house. They took girls with low GPAs. They took girls with bad reputations. Just to have pretty faces to try and help. Is this right? Absolutely not! I think zta has a great sisterhood, I think they attract a lot of great girls. BUT I also think they can focus on the wrong things (partying, looking “hot”, etc) and not well rounded enough. While there are obviously great well rounded girls in zta, there are a lot of girls who are there just because they have a pretty face and Instagram to match. Additionally, from where in Alabama I am from, zta would take really risky girls just to have instate girls. I mean seriously, that is what I came into college having as my perception of zta. Obviously, that has changed now, but zta was taking girls from my high school that had horrible grades and reputations. I also think zta gets hate because they have a lot of house pride and live for self promotion instead of just letting this site and other rumors run their course. They self promote but unlike other houses, they tear down other houses in the process of self promoting, which gives a bad taste.
