My aunt was here at the time and we have talked about it extensively. Gamma Phi was a middle tier house -- not great, not terrible. Then there wasn't a lot of emphasis on what "tier" a house was in because the internet wasn't as pervasive as it is now. Gamma Phis have always been more open to diversity than many other houses, so when they wanted to take their second African American girl, they did. The machine promised not to punish them because it would take pressure off the other houses to integrate. That promise lasted only one year and after that the machine made sure that Gamma Phis were completely ostracized. That's it. They obviously didn't get great swaps the last ten years. What are you thinking? For the first year they got about the same swaps. After that --- zilch..
