The girls from my hometown that I admire the most are the ones that didn't just make college 4 more years of highschool. Some girls do want to go to their state school and join the house that "everybody wants to be in." Then they enjoy 4 more years hanging around the same people and go back to their hometowns to continue. That was my mother's life. For me, I wanted something more. Even though I was a legacy (3time legacy actually) at a top house, I cut them the first day and spent my time trying to decide on houses that weren't as popular. I ended up in a houses that might be lower middle or even at the top of the lower tier. I had a perfect recruitment, in that I got every house I chose and wasn't ever eliminated from a house I liked. It's been a great experiment. I have gotten to know girls from all over the US and have made many friends I know are forever friends. When I get out of school, I'm not getting married and moving back to the B'ham area. I'm going to work for the State Dept. and hope to be posted in another country. I am ready for the whole tiers thing to go away. If girls don't have a lot of family support, self-confidence, and sense of adventure, they end up in the same top-tier house their mother and grandmother did because that's easy and expected. I'm so glad that's not me.
