Bama's Panhellenic website says PNMs are strongly encouraged to have a 3.0 or above. You'll probably get heavy cuts, so just be ready. You'll be competing with about 2000 other women for sororities that can only bid a certain number. A whole lot of them are going to have much higher GPAs than you do, plus all the extra-curricular activities. If you really, really want to be in a sorority, and there's not a reason related to your major that you're looking at Alabama, you might consider another school. There are lots of great schools that have active Greek Life, but aren't as crazy-competitive as the SEC. Your chances of getting a chapter you want will probably be much better. You could go to Alabama and try. If it doesn't work out this fall, there will be other opportunities. They don't have formal spring rush, but some sororities have COB events in the spring and you might find a place then. OR you could wait and rush Fall '14. It's harder to get a bid as a sophomore, but they have a dual quota -- one for freshmen and one for upperclassmen. The upperclassmen quota might help you if you use freshman year to earn a great GPA, meet sorority members in your classes, dorm, etc. and get involved in other things on campus. Sorry not to be more encouraging about this fall at Alabama, but it's probably going to be rough with a GPA under 3.0. Good luck whatever you decide.
