Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I don't think most sororities "fake their way." You can tell the difference between APhi and AOPi because those girls fundamentally style themselves differently. You can tell how KD would treat you as a member based on how their actives talk to you. Even little things like where your rusher is from, what they decide to talk to you about, how they react to your responses - all of those are pretty indicative of that chapter. Houses take the approach to recruitment that suits them, so generally the approach you see is the attitude you'll get. Yes some houses are WAY better at selling themselves than others, but it's not like they are selling a product fundamentally different from what they offer... That's my 2 cents anyways...
