Got rejected from HYPS, Penn, Columbia, UChicago, you know the deal. I went to private school in the Midwest and I really don't want to sound like a prick but I want to feel like I'm at an elite institution. I'm not part of Cornell Engineering or Architecture which I suppose is what most makes Cornell elite. The other schools I got into are Michigan, WashU and Northwestern. From my visit to Northwestern, I really got that elite vibe that schools like Harvard have. Cornell, WashU and Michigan did not have that. But, for good reasons, I felt the enormous size of Cornell, the proliferation of random departments like Food Science and Hotel Admin, and just the overall social scene offered that Cornell will be more like going to a good state school like Michigan (my home state). Is the social scene interesting here at least? Are there intelligent kids here beyond CS/engineering/architecture? Are there exclusive frats/societies here? I have stereotypes of Cornell but I've also visited and spoken with folks and Cornell feels sub-elite.
