Plenty of guys join as sophomores and its not a big deal, and it's unlikely a house will drop you simply because you're a sophomore. For some chapters a big part of the experience is living in the house, so if you join as a sophomore, you may be expected to live in as a senior when a lot of guys in your graduating class are in Collegetown. But that depends a lot on the size of the chapter and the property.
