Maybe the reason you don't understand sororities is because you're not in one. It's about having somewhere you feel you belong-- somewhere where you know that people will love and support you. You don't see how sororities interact with each other at meal times-- it's probably a lot different than what you perceive as an outsider. Don't EVER insinuate that hazing is the only way to form true bonds with someone. This is completely backwards, moronic, and crazy. "Oh yeah, we got married cause we got hazed together so our bond was unlike any other." Yeah no. Sorority functions suck because the sororities are so large that they're all under a strict eye from their national organizations. Sorority functions also suck because the FSL office here is much stricter than at other schools (cough Alabama), and sorority functions suck because they want to stay on campus. Sororities don't hold tailgates because there are rules against using chapter funds for the purchase of alcohol. You'll also have girls wearing the exact same letters that say hi to each other or smile at each other. Let's just say all 4000 sorority women don't have a sisterhood because I see a few that don't say hi. Everyone's entitled to having a bad day. While yes, I agree that the sororities are much too large, you've forgotten the entire purpose of greek life. Our founders intended for our organizations to make us better men and women-- to live up to higher standards, to have principles, and to (cont).
