Subject:
Sororities are toxic as hell!

Poster Message:
Greek life culture at A&M is pretty big but it is not an end-all be-all. If you are on the fence about rushing at all… there are some things that should maybe be considered. Every sorority will tell you they don’t care what you look like… but I know for a fact that every house takes into account your physical appearance, what kind of clothes you wear, and probably your size as well. Sororities tend to perpetuate a culture of conformity, so even if you rush as your true, genuine, and unique self… you will likely feel pressure to change pieces of your identity to “fit in.” Sororities create an “us vs. them” mentality. If you are not affiliated with one, many sorority women tend to look down on you. Some sororities have seriously intense rules… if you want to “live your college experience to the fullest” or even allow yourself room to make mistakes and grow through them, standards boards may not be very understanding. Many sororities perpetuate some seriously intense contradictions, they claim to “love each other so much” or be “women supporting women.” In reality the amount of talking behind people’s backs, bullying, and just general mean speech about one another is astounding. Not to mention the tearing down of opposing groups on this site. Friends who you meet through genuine real life experiences like class, work, or an organization you’re really passionate about will naturally just have more in common with you than a bunch of random girls that ultimately just get thrown together as “sisters” at the end of the rush process. Just some food for thought. You’re all smart enough to make the right decisions for yourselves!
