1) look up “TAMU issuu 2018” and you should get a helpful guide on formal recruitment. A lot better than anything you will find on GR. You should have a list of topics to talk about beforehand. Memorize it and use one of the topics when there’s an awkward silence, but don’t use it as a script . You should show interest (ex: ask about their philanthropy). You shouldn’t discuss stuff like politics, religion, romance, alcohol, etc 2) Defintiely express your concerns about time management with the sorority. Do it either when they ask “do you have any questions?” or when they ask what you want to do outside of Greek life. Maybe hold off on extra clubs until your second semester or later so that you have had time to figure out how to balance between Greek life & academics. 3) I love the support system & the fact that I have a pretty busy schedule. I don’t like how expensive it is or the fact that you get fined over the tiniest things. 4) Once you go to formal recruitment, if a sorority gives you a cliquey vibe, it’s prohably best that you don’t join them. If they are cliquey when they’re supposed to be fake & nice to everyone, imagine how they are when they’re no longer required to put on an act. Exactly which ones are cliquey depend on the person. I thought one sorority was cliquey, but two people from my recruitment group received a bid from that sorority & at least one seems really happy with her sorority, so... 5) Generalizations are just stereotypes. If you hear “all the XYZs are a bunch of fakes”, it may be true of some members, but other members may not match the stereotype at all. Ignore all these “tiers” and things that you see on greekrank. Some rankings & such may be truthful, but many are false, and there’s no way to tell the difference unless you’re in the house that they’re talking about. Go in with an open mind & trust your instincts 6) Whether or not you rush is your choice & your choice only. 7) I’ve pretty much said it already, but: go in with an open mind, trust your instinct, and trust the system/process. Also pay attention to whether or not you click with the girls more than whether or not they have a (nice) house.
