It isn't a big deal either way. If you aren't into football, it's still big socially. Lots of people go for the tailgating, take photos, go into the game, and then leave at half time. You can tailgate without buying a ticket and then leave (but it's a little odd). I think you'd regret it. Most of your friends will want to go, your pledge class will go as a group, fish camp, and impact. A lot revolves around it in the fall so you'd me missing out. It's part of the experience. Do it at least for your first year.
