Please try and get letters of rec, especially if you don't know people here now. More competitive sororities take girls who have connections AND letters of rec. If they really really like the girl then it will be ok to be missing one or the other but never both. There are also sororities that will take girls without recs and without connections but why limit your choices? You know about letters of rec now so there is no excuse for you to not start looking around now.
