The posts above are a bit to hopeful. You can find a good house in formal rush. That being said, you are 100x in better stature if you get a bid over the summer. Not only can you relax knowing you have a place (need to somewhat stay around to make sure they don't drop you), but you are looked upon much more highly. In most fraternities guys are not looked down at all for being a formal pledge. But in the top couple of fraternities they 100% are. A formal pledge is looked as someone who was taken in after only a few minutes of introduction and more of a pity or numbers bid. Either way it is frowned upon by pretty much all members. Other pledges will have known each other and the actives for several weeks or several days at the least.
